New Years Paleo Challenge – Day 12
A big part of the Paleo Diet is performance: we want to make better Crossfit Athletes.
We also want weightloss, and general improvement in health biomarkers, to include decreased inflammation.
“Inflammation is one of those words that people use without really thinking about its actual meaning. So today we’re going to take a bit of a break from the blood lipid series to cover inflammation. In later posts, I’ll dig deeper into how the inflammatory response works with stuff like exercise and heart disease, but for now, I’ll just get the basics out there.”

Admitting a cheat. I just ate a clementine because I was feeling sick and woosy. This is my first big cheat since I ate a bunch of carrots. Must be an orange thing.

wait, carrots aren’t allowed? But they’re on Robb’s food matrix…. http://robbwolf.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/thePaleoSolution_FoodMatrix.pdf

Carrots are cool, we just want to make sure we’re eating meat with them. When we dramatically lower carbohydrate intake, we are increasing insulin sensitivity (a good thing).
If we take in “naked” carbohydrate (basically carbs w/o protein) then we’re going to get an insulin spike which signals the body to store energy.
Make sense?

I ate the naked carrots. Trying to stay away from the starches, too. Heeding Alison’s advice from last week regarding veggies that grow in the ground (carrots, yams, squash) for weight loss.

ah yes, both responses make sense. I had a panic because I made about 5 gallons of beanless chili with ground beef, carrots, celery, mushrooms, and tomatoes as a substitute for beans. Thought I was going to have to throw the whole thing out.

This hasn’t been as hard as I thought it was going to be though I did cheat today and have some 85% dark chocolate. But other than having a horrible cold I feel pretty good food/diet change wise. Bonus is that I haven’t been able to exercise in over a week but I’ve already lost about 3 lbs. I am able to keep carbs under 50 grams a day without really trying too hard..and last night I had a bacon burger with guac for diner
Just need to keep fighting my sweet tooth!

By the way. I am with Meagan. I don’t even track how many carbs I eat, cuz all I am eating is on that list. I rarely have any starches. Just meat and veggies. Lots of eggs and Avocados too. The biggest thing for me is that I have been rock solid about cheating; which is huge for me, because I usually have NO will power. But I have not tasted sugar or dairy since this all started. That is by far the hardest part. I loved dairy.
I am having the same experience Meagan has. I was only able to work out on Saturday but I too am down upwards of 5-8 lbs! This is huge.
Oh and my AB’s hurt! This week has really worked them!
